VIRTUAL PRODUCTION - xR Technology, Mosys, Unreal Engine
“Masterpiece: Beyond the Painted Surface” places British art historian, BBC presenter and BAFTA nominated broadcaster, Dr James Fox inside the virtual 3D representation of Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks - his famous 1942 oil on canvas painting that portrays four people in a downtown diner late at night as viewed through the diner’s window..
Working alongside BILD studios and TEM to produce this virtual production using unreal engine and mosys camera tracking systems.
This unique project opens up the possibilities within the art-world to be able to explore inside some of the worlds most famous paintings. Discoveries were made, such as the restaurant was always assumed to be flat iron shaped, however when translated into 3D we discovered this was actually a rectangular restaurant. Being able to delve into artwork in this way adds a 4th dimension to the viewing experience.
